Hey friends! I am back with another post about my 2018 solo travels through Southeast Asia.

You can read all about my time in Vietnam here.

This week, I am writing about my time in Thailand.

In Bangkok, I found a black hairdresser (the only one in the city) to get my hair braided. I traveled over 2 hours roundtrip to her and it made me so appreciative of the abundance of Afro hair salons in the Caribbean and USA.

At that time, I worked as receptionist at a guesthouse for free housing and breakfast while in the city (lol cheap traveler tips). There, I learned a lot about the hospitality industry, met people from numerous different backgrounds.

Following that, I explored a few Thai islands: Koh Lanta Yai and Koh Lipe. Of course, this was spiced up by me temporarily losing my passport in the back of a cab. After 14 hours of pure anxiety, it was returned to me and I was on my way.

On the islands, I was quickly transported to a serenity I only felt back home in the Virgin Islands. Surrounded by gorgeous blue seas, white sands, and friendly brown faces I knew I was exactly where I needed to be after so long in the city.

To be honest, I just lazed around going to beaches, visiting rubber tree forests, and riding motorbikes. What a carefree time to be alive.

When I left Thailand, my heart was aching. I felt like I had found a home away from home and I knew I would soon return.

Khob-kun-Ka Thailand.
