I’ve been reflecting on my journey and I realized the importance of sovereignty 

I’d first like to start by defining sovereignty.

Sovereignty (noun)

sah-veh-reh-tee • \ ˈsä-v(ə-)rən-tē

  1. One who has supreme power or authority over themselves*
  2. The state of having freedom from external control or manipulation

*This power is unable to to be checked by anyone or anything

Essentially sovereignty means to have mastery over yourself, your world, and your and interactions with others.

In my world, sovereignty looks more like devotion, discipline, strategy, and surrender. When it comes to being a Queen, I believe that we as women have the most power when we marry strength and gentleness in order to move through all the realms of our lives.

Back to my sovereignty journey:

For years I started out on the path to success — get good grades, get into a prestigious university, win awards, get a ‘good’ job.

When I did all of that 10 years ago, I found myself so unhappy and burnt out. I was stressed, depressed, and my body was literally falling apart — losing weight, hair, and having 3 periods a month. I was losing my MF MIND. #IYKYK

🌺That led me to step into sovereignty — throwing it all away and traveling to learn under healers that helped me restore my sick mind, body, and soul into total wellbeing. My relationship with my family was strained, I lost friends, people thought I was crazy. Maybe I was. Maybe I still am. Yet, I had to trust that vision. I legitimately gave God the wheel. That’s the devotion and the surrender I talked about.

I have learned about yoga in India on 2 different trips, studied herbalism and temezcal healing in an indigenous village in Guatemala, and even dove into art, archeology and geology in Miami.  (Everything italicized are all links to the accompanying blog posts, BTW haha.)

I decided I didn’t care about what others thought, I didn’t care how shiny my life looked like on the outside, that success was an inside job. 

🌺The second step into sovereignty led me to share my healing journey on THIS blog that eventually became a business. This is the discipline and the strategy.

If you’ve been here since the beginning, you have been witnessing this for 7 years now — OMG. Thank you for your support. ILY. You have witnessed my confidence, my self doubts, all of my wild ideas, and everything I thought I needed to be. I have grown and expanded. I have shrunk and become so small. It has been incredibly unreal. Yet, throughout it all, my dedication to this space has been a practice in flexing my sovereignty muscles.

🌺Since then, life has blossomed beyond my wildest dreams. Not only have I been able to see the world, but also truly come hOMe to myself. It has been a crazy path and I know that the best is yet to come. Thank you, God. 

I see this very thing in my clients, where cultivating sovereignty is the one thing they both desire and fear deeply. 

As high achieving women, we’re taught to follow expected paths to success because of our intelligence or capabilities. We’re taught that we should do what the world expects of us. We’re taught that if we show up and hustle like men, we’ll be free. 

We inherited this from our mothers and their mothers and the women’s liberation movement in the 1960s and 1970s. 

✨Yet, what happens when success becomes a prison?

✨ What happens when your mind, body, and soul utterly revolt against the girl boss operating system?

✨When it’s traumatizing you more than it will ever “liberate” you?

Are you following the path others have laid out for you? Or, are you being the sovereign ruler of your world, Queen?
