I love cannabis. I&#8217;ve used the plant for years to help with insomnia, anxiety, and even physical pain.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>As a black woman I&#8217;ve been so ashamed to admit that due to decades of stigma and criminalization (read parts <a href=\"https:\/\/dejachaniah.com\/test\/2019\/06\/20\/cbd-part-1\/\">1<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/dejachaniah.com\/test\/2019\/06\/30\/cbd-part-2\/\">2<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/dejachaniah.com\/test\/2019\/07\/11\/cbd-part-3-re-enslavement\/\">3<\/a> here).<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Everything was nearly perfect except the conference was dominated by white men in suits. Nearly everyone spoke of cannabis as though it&#8217;s only existed for the past 6 years when the industry began.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>There were very few people like the <a href=\"https:\/\/minorities4medicalmarijuana.org\">Minorities for Medical Marijuana<\/a>, one journalist, and a few patrons who were seeking actionable measures for cannabis equity, like me.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>It felt like a huge symbol of erasure.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>Once I attended the expo, I began to see CBD all over the city. From Brooklyn to the Lower East Side to creeping up in Harlem, the dreaded 3 letters were haunting me. The patrons? At what price does your relief come at?<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>If you must buy CBD because it really gives you all your life, I suggest you buy products from companies owned by black and brown people.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>There are women of color owned companies like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.homebodyworld.com\">Homebody<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theapothecarrycase.com\">Apothecarry<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/mydashuri.com\">Dashuri<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/kannai.store\">Kannai<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/eliowellness.com\">Elio CBD<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/dehiyabeauty.com\">Dehiya Beauty SkinCare<\/a> that provide cannabis-derived products and accessories.
