I’ve been deep in my feels lately, trying to full understand the life I am living.  I think it can be so easy for us to fall into traps of shame, fear, or even self-hatred because we feel ‘different’ from what ideals society projects onto us. Over the past 10 months, I have been intentional in doing the work to liberate myself and live authentically.

While I was journaling about this, I drew inspiration from a goddess shrine in Ubud, Bali.  I thought about her, legs spread in a squat, arms pulled back, tongue and breasts bare as she stares at all who pass her line of vision.  Some may say she is a fool, but I believe she is confident in who she is and lives without fear. She is the kind of woman I am working to become.

As I was looking for a bookmark the other day, the synchronicity found one on the page left on I wrote this.  After re-reading it and fussing over things like its length and form, I finally decided it was ready to be shared just as is.

She is tense

Her power stalled

In her hips

Things left unsaid

Her body pregnant

With a voice

Never able to slip

Past her lips

Trapped in the strain

The pain of being bound

To traditions

Conditions

Are suffocating her

Isolation

She cannot fit in

But she was not meant to

Her life is not

Digestible

Basic

Popular

Mainstream

She is all she is

Raw, real

Rough, resilient

Thought-provoking

Invaluable

Never playing small

Rebelling

Doing what she wants

Turning trauma into gold

She breaks all the molds
